Comprehenders
5th-6th Grade

The Comprehenders Program is designed to bridge the gap between elementary and upper-level learning. Students continue to take the same core subjects as other grades, but at a more challenging and in-depth level. Academic expectations increase as students are guided to think critically, work independently, and take greater ownership of their learning.
Students in this program are required to use an agenda daily to track assignments and responsibilities. They will begin managing at-home assignments, participating in group projects, and developing time management skills that prepare them for the next stage of academic growth. Comprehenders will also have leadership opportunities, including volunteering with our K–1 students, helping them grow in responsibility, service, and mentorship. This program serves as a purposeful ramp into our Interpreter Program, ensuring students feel prepared, confident, and capable as they transition into higher expectations and greater independence.

Class Descriptions
Math Lab
Math Lab is a hands-on class where students spend part of the period playing educational math games designed to build confidence and enjoyment, followed by guided time to complete assigned curriculum work provided by the parent with teacher support and facilitation as needed.
Creative Writing
In this class, students will explore different forms of writing expression including journaling, poetry, short stories, and creative prompts. They will develop their voice, build confidence in writing, and learn how to express their thoughts and ideas clearly and creatively in a supportive environment.
History/Geography
History & Geography helps students understand the world through stories, timelines, maps, and discussion, connecting historical events to places and cultures while encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful conversation.
Science
Science encourages curiosity and discovery through hands-on exploration, observation, and discussion, helping students understand the world God created while building foundational scientific thinking skills.
STEAM
STEAM invites students to think creatively and solve problems through hands-on projects that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and practical application.
Health/Fitness
Health & Fitness teaches students about caring for their bodies through basic health education, followed by active movement and fitness practices that reinforce healthy habits in a fun, engaging way.
Cooking
In this class, students will learn the basics of cooking in a fun and hands-on environment. They will explore kitchen safety, measuring ingredients, following recipes, and preparing simple dishes while building confidence and independence in the kitchen.
Art/Music
Art & Music gives students space to create, explore, and express themselves through visual art and music, encouraging creativity, confidence, and appreciation for the arts in a joyful, hands-on environment.
